I have an 8-year old GE model # WKSR2100T2WW washing machine whose agitator does not turn and whose spin cycle does not work. The belt has been checked and is intact. The motor turns on without any smells.

Any hints on how to fix it would be appreciated.

Thanks for looking.

Hi brainwave,
Welcome to the DIY Forums.
The first thing to check would be the lid switch. The washer will not spin or agitate if the lid switch is not functioning. Press the lid switch by hand(use a stiff plastic item, plastic picnic utinsils work great for this). The switch should click when pressed. If the switch clicks when pressed the switch is probably good. This can also be checked with an ohm meter.Disconnect the power. Measure continuity across the actuator arm and the switch. If no continuity replace the switch.

If the washer will not fill with water check the water level switch. The washer will not agitate unless filled to preset water level. As the water level switch is electric it will have to be checked with an ohm meter. Disconnect the power before testing.
You should recieve an ohm reading of 7 to 15 with the tub empty and 7 to 16 with the tub full. If the readings are not within these numbers it needs replacement.

These are only 2 of the reasons that may cause your problem. There are several more but these are the easiest to check and most common causes of failure.

Good luck and reply back if you have further questions.
