We have central heating and cooling in our home which is only 2 years old. The a/c works fine, but when we turn the temperature up for heat, it blows cool air. Someone said it may be a bad thermostat, but I wasn't sure since the a/c works? Is it possible that we need a new heat pump? Thanks for your help!

I hope this does not come off as a dumb question, but I've seen it before. ON the thermostat there is probably a switch for A/C - Off - Heat. Did you switch it to Heat?

No, don't worry, it didn't come off as a dumb question. I did switch it to heat. There is another switch on the other side of the tstat. When the switch is on auto, nothing happens at all, even if I put the temperature on 90. When I swith it to fan on, it blows cold air. I was planning on putting in a new tstat, but I don't know if this is the problem. Let me know if you can think of what it might be. Thanks for your help! Oh, by the way, our hot water is working.

Hot water? As for hot water at the faucet, or hot water baseboard heat, or Hydro coil on the air handler?
If the fan works with the switch turned to "ON", then you got power going to the t-stat.
Remove the t-stat, and jumper the R and W wires together and see if you get anything.

Being only 2 years old you may want to get ahold of the installing company so as to not void any warranty.

Thanks for the advice. I will try jumping the R & W wires. If I get warm air, that means I need a new tstat, right? Thanks again for all the help!
