Hello, and thank you in advance for responding: I have a 1983 Burnham P-206w gas boiler that has started acting up. The call for heat from the thermostat opens the damper, and the pilot lights OK. Sometimes the gas value immediately shuts off and sometimes it fires right up to full flame and runs awhile (Mins) and then shuts off for no reason. All along the circulator pump runs without any problem. I can get the pilot to relight if I hit the boiler off switch and back on again. Sometimes it works fine and other times like tonight when the temps are cold, it's not staying on. Help!

Almost sounds like a bad connection on the thermostat circuit. Perhaps a bad connection in the boiler switch.
Don't under any circumstandes swear, curse or kick the boiler, gas appliance are very senstive that way and can take offence very easily. If you do you need a pro to come and passify it.

To get the stat out of the circle, remove it from the wall and jumper R+W. That should put you into heating sequence.

If it's still dropping out get a multimeter and see if you're loosing the 24v at the gas valve.
