Greeting all!
This is my first post to the board (although I have been trolling for awhile.) I recently bought my first house, the house has a finished basement, that appears to have been finished by DIY'ers. The room is framed in and the living space is approximately 13x15 (two walls of the framed room are outside share outside walls.)
There is currently one heat run to the finished area. It is tapped into the side of the main duct (rather close to the furnace). Bare with me here, but from what I can gather is that it is a 4" -> 6" tapered duct at the mainline....feeding an l-shaped run that drops straight to the floor to a register about a foot from the floor.
The problem is that there is very little heat coming from the duct when the heat is on. I tried removing the pipe from the tapered peice and found that a lot more air comes out at the top of the duct.
Is this because of the age old heat rises idea? Would this be better suited to rather than snake to the floor, run parralel or above the trunk and blow down? I am a little bit lost here....
I appreciate any help...Thanks
