Hi,

My oldish GE dishwasher is leaking. It only leaks about a 1/2" of water in a glass so it's not much, but I'm going to be getting new wood floors and so I need to fix the dishwasher. It's been leaking on ceramic tiles for a long time and I've just mopped it up after each load as it comes out the front of the unit. I use the washer about once a week.

On this picture (http://www.partselect.com/xq/aspx/Inventory.260801/imgID.3/qx/PartDetail.htm?SourceCode=6) the solonoid unit is 6 blocks from the right and 8 from the top. It's a top view. An upside down view is at http://www.partselect.com/xq/aspx/Inventory.260801/imgID.2/qx/PartDetail.htm?SourceCode=6. See the part shaped like this <) It has a spring attached that goes to about 4 blocks from the top. Well the water comes out of the <) shaped thing somewhere at the back and runs down the spring. The water does not appear to be coming out of any hose or pipe.

There's a part called a "Dishwasher pump drain valve seal", a picture is at http://www.repairclinic.com/0081.asp?RccPartID=274144. Is this all I need to replace on the dishwasher? How would I replace that part? Or is this not the problem.

I have 2 video clips online showing the water leaking, or as it leaks and then stops. If you'd like to view please let me know through the site and I'll mail you the link. A highspeed internet connection would be best to download the AVI files.

All help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Kind regards,
Robert

Hi Robert,
-Does the leak occur only when the machine is pumping out? If so, then I think your guess at this drain valve seal is a good one. How easy it is to get at may be a whole other problem! post back and let us know

Hi and thank you for your reply. Yes, only when it I think pumps out or switches to pumping out, it only leaks for 5 seconds at a time max, and then stops. So in total it's 2 or 3 times in the whole wash.

Getting to it's gonna be a problem I think. I'm not that handy. I decided to buy a new dishwasher instead. The dishwasher is VERY old and if I fix this then in a few months it'll probably be something else that goes, maybe a water hose (on my new floors!) or the pump, etc.

Thanks again for your reply.

Robert

Hey Robert,
- now that you're getting a new one, you can use that old one to practice on ! -Every time I say that to my wife, I get the look, you know the one:rolleyes:
Have a good Christmas Robert,

I did practice on it. :-) But I think I may have broken it. LOL.

I fitted the new one today, works well, no leaks, all good! :-)
