My attached 1 car garage does not have a floor drain and I cannot tie into any other drains with out destroying my paved driveway. I get water in my garage only from the snow and ice that melts off the car. It makes a mess on the floor. The floor is cracked and heavily pitted so I'm planning on busting it up and replacing it, but I want to put in some type of drain that will work for draining the car run off. Would a dry well work for this? I don't know how to build one or how big to make it. The soil is mostly clay. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You would do well to check with a local code office for what you are planning. Most garage drains are required to have a greasetrap. I realize you just want it for snow and water removal however it will still contain any oils that drip from your vehicle.
If you are planning to tear up the old concrete anyways, why not put a pitch in it that would drain the water out of your garage. Good luck.

Pitching the floor sounds like a good idea, but would the overhead door weatherstripping prevent the water from draining out? I suppose a small groove in the concrete would allow the water to drain under the door, but then my concern would be that pests could get in.

A dry well like for here dig a hole 4'X4'X'4' line it with 30 lb felt paper fill with 2" rock cover the topwith more 30lb felt put the floor drain in it set to the floor level and put in the new concrete floor. Like said you could get oil down in the dry well also. Can just slope the floor to the door. Here code calls for a 1"drop that the door will close on. thats so water cant blow back or run under the door seal into the garage.
