The other night I went into my parents room to shut their tv off, it is plugging to a surge protector and that in turn is plugged into a wall outlet which is turned on and off by a wall switch. Well I went in and flixed the switch off and the tv went off, but right away a it started to make an odd buzzing sound, so I tried to turn it back on and it made the clicking noise like it wanted, but the odd buzzing was still there and is didnt come on at all no picture or sound. So I took it apart thinking maybe it is the fuses, so I check both the vcr fuse and the main power fuse and nothing they checked fine on the meter, but the odd thing is I went to Radioshack and bought some more fuses just in case and put them in and the minute that I did they blew, but the when I put the original one back in it was fine. Please does anyone know what this could be and how I can fix it?
Thanks Matt :wall:

Yeah Im sorry I miss read it. The model number does say CXB. I can solder fine, but now my next question is when I took out the VCR portion there was a little silver box where the power cord runs into, Im assuming that this is the primary power source you are talking about correct, or that the secondary power supply? Thank you for helping out.

Will do man, but not to be a pest but the 330uf cap how many volts should it be and is little black box like shape, because I found what looks be a few little black caps that are numbered qc02, but I cant seem to find QC01. So I guess my last question would be Am I looking at the right caps? Thanks a TON for your help :)

Thanks alot for your time and help, I had to order the part because no stores near me have it including radioshack they have a 22uf cap but, its 22uf 35v and isnt nonpolar. I will keep you updated when I get it in there. This may be stupid, but Am I correct in assumming is there a certain way to put it in the board, I don't think it matters. :)

Your telling me I work there part time during the holidays just help out and some extra money, but yeah your damn right about that and heres some FYI the parts they have now are going to be gone in 2 years their new employee modo is "be a hero at zero" which me means for get about the parts and sell the higher end crap like cell phones and batteries. Now correct me if Im wrong here but arent the hobbiest the ones who got radioshack where they are today,? Now instead of expanding with what made them famous they are going to get rid of it all together. Well what are you going to do. I thought that it didnt matter but I just wanted to make sure I will understand all this when I get out of college

Ok I just got the parts in today, well now Im totally confused? Ok here is what I did I just replaced to 22uf 16v cap (c09) in the power supply well after I did that I tried it, well same thing still getting the odd buzzing noise and still no picture, so I then replaced the 470uf 16v cap (c810) on the main board, then I tried it again this time there was noise buzzing noise but still NO DAMN PICTURE or anything at all on the screen. When I turn it on it clicks like and it sounds like it is going to power the tube and all, but it doesnt. What else can I do to fix this now, is there anything else I should test and or replace? I could be wrong, but I have a feeling it has something to do in the power supply, but I just don't know.
If it is any help the numbers of the parts that I took out are as follows with the replacement parts right after that:
orig part number: New Part Number:
sms-D 16v 22uf 916c2(m) 85degree 16v 22uf
(m)ss 470uf 16v 252c2(M) 470uf 16v
Please help me

Im pretty sure I put them in right, because to my understanding they can go in anyway, because there is no + or - to these caps, correct? I have a very good digital multimeter, where do you think I should start testing? I was thinking maybe some of the transisttors on the main board, or in the VCR power supply where I put the new 22uf cap in, what do you think? What do you think the odds are that it could be something on board that is connected to the back of the picture tube? I know on the last RCA 27" I fixed that shut off on its own when you pressed any button, it turned out to be a resistor on the portion of the unit. Oh I fixed that with the help of everyone on this great site, thanks again for everyone who helped me on that one, by the way and thank you Kuhurdler for your help so far, you have been great :)

Yeah if it reaches $20.00 Im done Im only at .45 Cents right now, both caps were non polar and when I took them out of the unit I checked both the board and the cap to see if there was any + or - marks on them but niether had any marks at all, there was no flow marks or + or - marks at all. The only thing Im wondering is if there is a chance that in the process of soldering the 22uf cap I wonder if I blew it some how? Now Im confused alittle bit, the power supply in the VCR portion, is that the main power source or is big board that the tube and everything else hooked up to the main power source? Because when I changed the cap on the CBT board the buzzing stopped. Thank you again for taking the time to try and help me with problem :)

Ok heres an update, well and a great BIG THANK YOU for reminding me of that Transistor tester that Rad-Shack sells because I ended up getting it for free, because if fell off of our inventory along with a ton of other stuff, but that is beside piont :) Ok now this may seem rather odd, but when I got home lastnight I replaced the 22uf cap with a new one to see if that would do it, but NOTHING  So I now just ordered some more 330uf caps and Im going to just replace all of them in the VCR portion of the power supply because when I went to test them I could get a reading at all and I maybe wrong on this but there is no way to really check a cap without some special equ, correct? Now I took the transistor out of the Vcr power supply and tested that and it tested ok, but now when you say to check the H.O.T what exactly do you mean, to check the Huge cap on the cbt board that has the word HOT near it or should I be looking somewhere else, sorry for the stupid question, I got cofused when I say the HOT portion of the main board. Thanks again man you have been a huge help

Oh quick note I forgot to mention, well ASK I see that these caps have different degrees on them and I was wondering does that really matter or that there just because?

So the HOT horizontal output transistor is located on the main board, not the VCR power supply, correct?

Well here is an update I have just replaced ALL the 330uf caps in the main VCR power supply, checked Q01,Q02 (transistors) and now Im in the process of checking some SCR and Traic from the VCR power supply. NOw on the other power board I have replaced all the 470uf caps and have checked transistor numbers QC01, QC02, and QC175. Still nothing no power at all the tv clicks but still has no power at. Well i will keep everyone updated once I find out and do more and help would be great thanks all :)
