I think this is a dinosaur, since it's been in the house since I bought it in 1979. It still works but has no options to speak of (basically on and off at medium heat or only air) and I'm inclined to get a new one at the same time I get a new washer, which I am 90% sure will be necessary. The model id that I can read looks like 110 6508934. There's another number 06001 somewhere on the tag also and M804 or M604. Sure hope that helps in guestimating age of the dryer. I found a website that said the 110 prefix indicated it was a Whirlpool product made for Sears.

This is somehow wired into the house directly which I think means it's on its own line/circuit breaker? It is not plugged into an outlet but rather there is a large coil coming out the back of the dryer (I can't get to it to really look) which I think encloses the electrical connections. This snakes down into my basement and seems to end up at my circuit breaker box. Sorry to be so dumb about this. I'm concerned it might be a fire hazard by now.

Thanks for any help.

I would say the various owners got their money's worth. I looked up the model # on sears.com and the parts list & diagrams came up. No telling the age. Your only concern as far as a fire hazard would be lint accumulation either in the exhaust vent system or inside the cabinet itself. This is a potential problem that can occur with units a fraction of the age of yours. The wiring should not be a factor and dryer circuits always have a dedicated breaker regardless of whether it is connected to an outlet or is hard-wired into the house.

Try listing it on E-bay as an antique? Might even try contacting Sears, although I have no clue what department.

Suggestion- consider donating it to your local vo-tech school. I teach at a vo-tech and I'm always on the lookout for machines for my students tp practice on. I usually wind up with junkers, so it's nice to get an older unit that still works ok.

Thanks for the idea on donation. I need to get the washer/dryer out of here before I get the new ones in because I'm sure the installers won't give me the time I need to clean the disgusting amount of dirt that is back and underneath them.
