The supply and return air ducts coming into and out of my furnace have a flexible connection between where the duct meets the furnace, and where it goes through the rest of the house. Is this connection there for any specific reason, or is it there to allow the get "close enough" with the furnace and ducting installation?

Are there any restrictions on mounting a humidifier when I encounter this?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Aaron

This flex you trying to talk about, is it black cavase? Yes these are ok to use on the system.. They help cut down on vibration from the furnace onto your duct work.

The humidfier will not hurt this.

You dont want to cut into it to mount a humidifier if thats what you mean. Go above or below it. Hey you got a good duct job there it sounds like. like Jay said its for noise is all and it will take the heat are cool ok.

The flexible part is more of a heavy vinyl. I think I can make out the word "vinyl" on it. Using this for vibration isolation makes sense.
