All audio in my system is routed through the receiver. Have RGB cables running from DVD player to Component 1 jacks on TV. Audio is routed to receiver (Yamaha HT-5660, Optical DVD input) via optical cable. Video is fine, but no audio comes through. TV is OK; so is optical cable, since TV audio will not function without it. VCR is OK, too: video is routed to TV via yellow RCA cable, audio to receiver (VCR 1 Audio Input) via red and white RCA cables. Why can't I get DVD audio? Am I doing something wrong? Am I missing something? Do I have a malfunctioning DVD player? Thanks for any and all help.

What is the name of the optical input that you are using for your DVD player? Does that input have the optical digital turned on or is it on auto sense? (senses the type of signal being used). Most inputs can be manual set for coax, optic or analog input for each input (vcr, tv, cd, dvd, etc.) or they can be set to "auto".

Sometimes you have to tell your dvd player to use the optical out as well.

My yamaha receiver has an Input Mode button that lets you cycle through different audio options. On at least one will cause the audio not to work with a typically configured system. That got me a couple times when i first got the unit.
