Hi. I am trying to install a whole house humidifier. There is very little room to mount the humidifier on my return duct due to a furnace vent pipe that obscures the front edge of the return.
The duct in question attaches to the top of the furnace, goes straight up 24", and then angles 45 degrees and continues upwards where it meets the vent from the water heater. This juncture then leads to a vent that I assume goes outside.
Can I reduce the 24" vertical duct run to 8" or 12", and then angle it to meet the water heater vent duct? This would move the duct out of the way of the area I need to install the humidifer, but I didn't know if a 24" vertical run from the furnace was required by code or some other reason.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Aaron
