View Full Version : How to clean Desert Sprong drum? Help!!!
Can anybody tell me the best way to clean the drum of “Desert Spring”. I have mold problem (mold appears in 2 weeks after cleaning)? I use hot water supply.
I used Windex, vinegar to clean it - the same results...

Desert Spring recommends using vinegar to clean the lime deposits or any safe descaler. They also require that it hooked up to the COLD water supply.Your mold problems may be due to the fact you have it hooked to the hot supply line. I would clean with a MILD bleach solution to kill present mold and connect to the COLD water line.
You can call them for other technical questions at (888) 486-4324
Good luck and post back if you have further questions.
I had it connected to cold water and I had the same problems.
Then I moved water supply to hot water pipe and i didn't notice any difference.
I've never seen such units, but have heard from many other tech out there saying these are the worse thing to have..
Be best to get a Honeywell/Aprilair system that has pads that are easy to change out once year.

I replied to your private message, okl62. Sorry it took me so long to notice!
Kill the mold. That may mean disabling your humidifier for the time. Extra moisture in the air will only add to the problem... mold dies when it's warm and dry. Disinfect the sources of the mold which may mean having the ductwork and unfinished spaces of the house professionally checked and mitigated.
Thank you, Scotaku for your instructions - it is very good to know (I used to live in area where we never had mold and never new anything about it). The main source of mold probably was the DS humidifier itself (since the rest of my house is OK). So I took all discs apart, cleaned and desinfected them with clorox for 2 hours. I hope this will help.
Thank you.
