View Full Version : Water leakage from conduit to pressure switch

As the title says I have a bit of water coming in throw the conduit that runs the wires from the pressure switch down to the well pump.

It isn't a lot of water but I'm concerned that over time it will corrode the switch and lead to a short.

I tried shooting some insulation form up the conduit but that didn't seem to help much.

My first question is what is causing the water to come in through the conduit? It the conduit laying in a pool of water outside of my house? Is it leaking into the conduit at the well pump itself?

My second question is what can I do to fix it?

My third question is if I can't get it fixed is it OK to just run to water to the sump pit or will I just be leaving a safety risk with the pressure switch corroding?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Conduit under ground will get water in it even if it is sealed. It comes from condensation.

As long as it can't get into the pressure switch no harm is done.

Thanks for the replys.

So nomind you say that if it doesn't get into the pressure switch that it shouldn't cause any harm. Well that is exactly my problem. A bit of water drips out of the conduit into the switch. It then drips out of that. It is a very small amount of water so it only creates a small layer on the bottom plate of the switch which from there it drips to the floor.

I can see a bit of corrosion on the bottom of the plate.

If this condensation is normal I think I have one option. The conduit is at a lower vertical level about two away from the pressure switch. Could I just cut a notch in the conduit. This would allow the water to drain out at this lower point (and not get to the pressure switch) and I could drain it to the sump pit from there.

Does that sound reasonable or should I instead try to plug it in some manner at the switch itself?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Virtual, your idea of cutting a notch in the conduit willwork . - Just be VERY careful you don't cut the wire. ( and naturally you're doing this with breaker off, otherwise

good luck with it , you're doing okay so far, we'll make a wellguy out of you yet !
