Side by side Amana SXDE27NE approx 11 years old. Lower portion of freezer cold, upper warm, refrigerator side warm. Took cover off inside back of freezer and found cooling coils frozen in a block of ice. Thawed so it might work for the time being, but what the heck do I do next to locate and eliminate the problem that caused the ice block? Funds are tight, so please avoid the "get a new fridge" response, I would have a year ago if I could! (Similar occurance, down for two days, "magically" corrected self).

Hi Bem
A number of things can cause this, the most likely ones are ;
-Defrost timer is faulty or loose
-evaporator fan is faulty
-evaporater is plugged with ice
-temperature control is faulty
To start with, turn the temp. control down to min. see how it runs for a day or two. If this isn't it, replace the defrost timer. The appliance store that sells you it will know whereabouts it is.
If neither of those things fix it, get back to this thread and we'll go further. :cool:
