100% silicone caulk on moulding

Over the last couple of days my husband installed crown moulding around a cathederal ceiling. He used 100% silicone to caulk the seams and caulk between the wall/ceiling and the moulding where the gaps were large. Now he realized that the caulk isn't paintable. How can we recover from this snafu?

Considering how difficult it can be to remove silicone caulk, be ready to sand the surface from which you cut or scrape the caulk in order to have a clean surface to use. Acrylic latex caulk will take paint. You can use it, after removing all the silicone caulk.
