Is there a special type of concrete that is used for the top of the chimney or can any type be used? The top of ours has some cracks in it. Can I just remove any loose concrete and apply new over it or take do I have to take the old completly off? I also have to repoint the bricks on the chimney. Do I just take all the loose cement out and apply the new and is there a special type for chimneys?
THANKS!
THANKS!

Use portland cement for the top, I would remove all the old cement and pour new sloping it towards the sides.
Use masonry cement for the bricks (type s) clean out all the loose motar and pack new motar in.
