I have had 2 contractors looking at putting a duct system in my house. 1 said to get heat upstairs I run duct in attic then down to rooms. This is the easiest way for my house. Another contractor said it will not work good. He said put a seperate duct in each room, but it's hard as hell the way my old house designed. Helplease
Hard to say with out seeing your home in person.. It can be done tho.
Just as long they sized the supply duct right going up to the attic, then the duct size reduced as the run gets longer to keep the static pressure.
Also make sure the duct is insaulated as well.

I would go with the one duct up too the attic. For sure you want a damper or we call them a robber. In its take off from the basement so you can play with it down there. This will let you balance it better for winter to summer. Make sure it can carry all the Cfm you will need up there. I take it you will have about 3 rooms there so Id just tap off of it with flex insulated pipe. This way if you close one down a little the heat or cool can go right over to the other rooms.
