I'm restaining an arbor and need to know if it is alright NOT to wipe down/off the excess stain. Part of the surface is lattice and very rough. While the excess help protect from weather or just crack and peel of off and look terrible? Help!! Need assistance ASAP!

Excess stain is counter productive. Once it dries on the surface it is prone to chip and flake more readily than it would if wiped down after application.
You can, however, wait several hours before you wipe it down. This allows maximum penetration of the stain into the wood.
