Hi,
I own a three family home. One of our tennents moved out about 3 months ago.We supply the washers and dryers in the cellar.
My wife noticed the other day that the washer for that apt had been left with some water in it all this time! She tried to turn it on and get it to drain, but it only filled, then it smelled like a motor burning???I un plugged it.Any ideas?I don't think the washer is over 10yrs old, looks fairly new.Is it worth fixing? The water in the drum looks rusty? Thanks :)

It's almost always cheaper to repair then replace even if you have someone else do it.
Your problem sounds like either the motor burnt out or the belt. I am assuming it has a belt since it is over 10 years old. You will have to remove (probably) the back panel and have a look at the drive. You should be able to turn it on for a few seconds to see what is or isn't moving. May see a broken belt right away or one that is worn and thats what the smell is rather than a motor. Good luck.
