Hi again. We have a well in our new old house. The water is muddy, even after passing through a filter canister. The filters become completely muddy after just one day. We just finished shocking the well with bleach, and it seems like this made it worse.. is it possible the bleach reacted with something in the well to loosen sediment or is it just conincidence? Also, why is there so much sediment in the water, and what are our option?

As the water comes out of the tap, it is yellowish-grey.

Thanks for your help - we are new fixeruppers and are a bit overwhelmed as we unpack and start discovering all the troubles!

It is perfectly normal for your water to be murky for a few days after shocking. The chlorine loosens up all the scale and rust inside the pipe.
However , this may not answer the real question if you had silty water before shocking. If it's possible, I would try not to use any water for a couple of days and see if it settles down. - Is the well new, and if so how was it 'developed' ( that is, run after first opening up) Give us more facts and I'm sure we'll find a solution. :)

Thanks a lot. The water seem to have cleared up quite a bit. I hope it lasts. I will be finding out more about the well this week.
