My friend put in a new septic system about 2 years ago and ever since has had the smell of sewage indoors. It's not as bad in the summer as in the winter when the furnace is running. It seems then to come up through the duct work. The vent pipe on the roof was checked and all was fine there. The plumber claims that this is normal. Is it?

DawnyVR, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
Smelling sewer gas in the house is never normal. Does the house have a basement? I would start checking drains (especially floor drains) to make sure they have water in the traps. Should be able to look into them and tell. If in doubt, dump a gallon of water in them. The return air ducts may be pulling the smell from wherever it originates. House being closed up in the winter allows the odor to concentrate. Good luck.

Check the drain line there at the furnace on the AC. The condensate line from it could and should have a trap in it. This can be dried out now. Also have had the condensate line go over to a floor drain and in a shout time dried out the trap there. Most of the time this GAS leak in the home
"methane"gas dont start till just about Xmass. No its not right. Put water in the traps and see if it stops. This is why we put a inline trap from the septic tank to the home .
