I have just refinished a laminate table. I sanded the surface first, primed with a latex primer, painted with a latex dark-colored base coat, painted with the latex crackle, and painted with a latex light-colored top coat. In hindsight, I realize that the spread the crackle varnish too thinly and it did not "crackle" as much as I would like. Can I do anything to increase the amount of crackle now that I have the top coat on? I plan to finish it all with a poly to seal the table.

Teena:

It's my understanding that a crackle finish is achieved primarily through chemical reaction, so there's probably nothing that can be done at this point, since the action has stopped.

What you can try, however, with no guarantees whatever, is an application of heat, with a hair dryer. It may cause further reaction, and it can't hurt.
