I have a French Provincial Dresser and Chest (White with gold accents). I need to know hoe to refinsh them, they are stained, but in good condition otherwise. PLEASE help! I have never done anything like this before. I would like to repaint them white and put a sealer on them. Any help would be greatily appreciated.

Ruth:
Sand the entire piece - 180-200 grit paper is rough enough. You're not trying to remove the old finish, just rough it up for a new finish to stick to.
Apply two coats of a good adhesive primer, such as BIN, sanding after each coat.
Wipe the piece down after the final sanding to remove dust.
Apply the paint of your choice.
French Provincial such as you describe generally has some detail work that can be difficult to sand - don't neglect it. A small piece of sandpaper wrapped aound a Q-tip will get into areas you normally can't reach.
