Six years ago a prefinished butcher block island was installed in my kitchen. Now after wear, I have areas that have grayed where the finish has worn away. How should I go about restoring this butcher block? What finish would you recommend to hold up to a great deal of use.

Strip the block and refinish with PURE tung oil. I'm not talking about the products that say the CONTAIN pure tung oil - they also contain other additives.

You can get pure tung oil from:

(They offer a free catalog.)

You will probably have to bleach the top to get rid of the grey. Use wood bleach - not ordinary household bleach. It's available at many home centers and most paint stores.
