I have a very old veneer dresser with beveled mirror and about 3 coats of paint on it. My aunt had started refinishing it and it now has a very rough surface with pain still on it. What is the best way to strip the paint and not do any more damage?

Lizzie:

If the roughness you feel is mostly in the paint that's left, just keep stripping - the problem will cure itself as the paint is removed.

If you feel a lot of the roughness is due to damaged wood, you might want to consider having a professional finish cleaning it up.

You can always strip it yourself, regardless of the present damage - just go slowly and carefully to avoid more damage.
