I am finishing my basement and the ceiling is made of 12" engineered floor joists on 20 inch centers instead of the usual 16" centers. How is the best method to hold up the insulation prior to dry walling?

Are fiberglass bats the best insulation to use?

You can go to any of the insulation manufacturing websites, like Manville, Certainteed, etc. and you will find insulation the width that will stay up by friction. They have a variety of different kinds, like rigid board insulation, but I prefer the batts. If you need to hold the insulation up for some reason you can use hangers specifically for use in this application and you can get them at any home improvement store.
