i recently built a heavy loft and put in a friends bedroom. the loft is freestanding and has 4 - 2x6 legs and im concerned about possible carpet damage as this is a rented apartment. is there some way to prevent this? thx

Giving the loft a larger "footprint" by spanning a 2x6 across under each pair of legs will spread the weight out over a larger surface area will make it cause less damage. I haven't seen anyone lose a deposit over furniture prints in carpet. My daughter had a loft for a while that I had built, the posts were 4x4s and it did very minimal damage to the carpet.
