Hi all,the cold return registers are located on the floor and i need to get some kind of filter to install on this metal grills [ 14x 20 or so] i have good quality filters install on the furnace but i like to establish a 'first line of defence' agains dust and dirt, besides a pantyhose what else is there that i can use to be an effective filter and same time wont restrict too much the air flow.
Thank you very much Regards papi

Dont do it, let them as they are. Use a good pleated filter about a MERV 5 can add a little filter spray coat on the intake side of it . New one every 30 to 90 days. Are put in the 4"or5" airbear filter. But dont have one in the register and one in the furnace.

Absolutely!....If for some reason your hellbent on filtering the duct, use a cheap throwaway fiberglass.

One filter at the furnace is fine.. If you put another, then yes you are going to have air flow problems.

If your ductworks are very dirty, then hire in a duct cleaner, and then use a good media filter.
