View Full Version : finished basement
just recently bought this house and it is roughly 3200 sq.ft 1500 upstairs ranch style with 1500 in the basement which is finished. Three bedrooms upstairs and the liv/din/kitchen are all open floor plan. the open area upstairs is the same in the basement l shaped. the basement is finished. There is a ventless fireplace in the northeast corner of the basement. What is the best way to heat the basement more easier, there are two heat ceiling vents roughly in the center of the basement about 18 ft. apart no return vents.
Need any advice please.

Its rather hard to vision what your looking at. These supply ducts are connected to a blower box somewhere... Follow the ducts backward. They MIGHT have been using the fireplace to heat the basement and the blower to RECIRCULATE the warm air in the space.

If that is a vent less gas fireplace there for sure dont use it. Or put up a Carbon Monoxide alarm for sure. The two runs you have now are ok for cool .But dont work for heat. Id run them on out to just off the outside walls blowing down with a 2 1/4" X 12" register. This way the heat has to come back across the room to the cold air return you need down there near the floor at the furnace.
