Don't know if you're talking about plywood separating or veneer popping, but the approach to both is the same, so it doesn't matter.

With a thin blade putty knife, try to clean out as much of teh dirt and debris that may be in the open separation as possible. Turn the piece so the opening is up - work glue (Elmers Carpenters* glue will work) into the area, then apply pressure to close the crack(s). If you don't have clamps, or they're not suitable, stack books on the piece to hold the opening shut until the glue dries (at least overnight).

A word of caution: If there's ANY danger of the glue getting on what you're stacking on the piece, place the weights (whatever they are) on a piece of wax paper - the glue won't adhere to that, and you won't have glued anything to the piece you're working on!!

* Yes I know you're supposed to use Hide glue for veneer repair, but how many home owners have access to it?
