Other than 16" on center, firestops, and possibly pressure treated sole plates for the floor, is there any other "code" issues in regards to the way a basement is framed? It seems there are different styles to turn corners and to frame out HVAC, pipes, etc.. I'm just wondering if there are any specific codes in this regard..

Thanks

We at DIY are from all over the world. Your best bet would be to check with your local code office. Codes change from State to State and even City to City. Some are better and some are worse but in the end they are ALL codes that have to be adhered to. Good luck on your project.

The problem is, there is no one at the code office who can give details. They refer me to the internet to try and find and understand the IRC Code. I don't know how your're supposed to build correctly on your own, if you can't get the codes. I guess thats why you need to hire someone.

I think you just talked to a lazy inspector. If they do inspections then they have to know what they are looking for. As I said in my previous post, codes are different everywhere so you might find one for an area that is less stringent than your own. I had that with a concrete inspector in Florida. After sitting for 2 hours getting the head inspector to show me what had to be done, the guy that inspected the job said he didn't like it. Told him to call his boss because thats who said to do it that way. Got my permit okayed. Good luck.
