I have a shelf that was stained. There is a water ring mark that I am trying to remove. I have sanded it and restained it and the mark is still there. What can I do to remove it? Thank you

Lynan:

You need to use a wood bleach, which should be available from any good paint store or home center. I prefer oxalic acid (don't let the name scare you - it's almost harmless).

Bleach the entire side of the shelf with the stain, not just the stain itself. This will insure color uniformity on that side.

After washing the bleach off with water, dry it as best you can with rags, etc., then allow it to air dry overnight before restaining.

With oxalic acid, you should see results within 1-2 minutes after application.
