What colours best suit a young childs room(development wise)
I want to start by telling you guys that I have a 10 ft Ceiling mostly square room with a closet in the corner built out from the wall bythe door.
There is one light in the centre of the ceiling with two windows on opposing sides.
just a few pointers would be good.
I have started by stripping the wallpaper and spreading compound over cracks in the plaster.
It has t+g red pine for a floor(that has underlay glued to it)
Anyway, THanks in advance!
Phil.

you'll save yourself a ton of money in the future if you paint the room in cool white shades now and just put the bright primary colours good for visually simulating the very young in the fabric accessories of this room (cushions, bedcovers, curtains).
accessories are more easily changed as the child gets older and their own tastes start to develop.
a cool (crisp) white background and this triadic colour scheme could work well with your red pine floors also (once they've been cleaned up).

development wise? i'd say anything bright & cheery will be stimulating. for girls, that can mean bright pink, purple, turquoise blue and yellow. or maybe bright yellow, orange & pink. for a boy, you can't go wrong with the primary colors red, blue, green & yellow. or any combination of those like blue & green; blue & yellow; or red, white & blue, etc.
i'd take your cues from the bedding that you find you like. before you pick paint colors, find a bedding set FIRST that has fun colors & maybe a theme that interests your child and then pull a color or 2 out of the fabrics for the paint color/s.
paint is inexpensive, so i think you can safely paint fun colors now and maybe even change out the bedding & accessories later without having to repaint. but probably, by the time the paint starts to look a bit tired & in need of freshening, you'll be ready (and so will the child) for something new anyway.
kids' rooms are The Most Fun rooms in your house to decorate - have FUN with it!
is this a boy or a girl?

His nursery was a lemon-yellow color that was so bright and cheerful... and gender neutral so if our second born was a girl, we wouldn't need to re-paint. I liked the color and the serentiy of the room so much, that when he moved into a big boy bed in his new room, I painted it a similar color. Then when my hubby and I separated, and I bought a new house, I used the same color again - I find that a lot of kids decor (fabrics, pictures etc) have some yellow in them, and have found it to be bright, cheerful, practical and easy to work with when matching other things - and it looks great with white trip, or with natural wood colors...
Just my thought...
Good luck
