View Full Version : Fruit cellars leaking

Hi all,

This is probably a fairly common question, but I didn't see any other threads about it.
I have fruit cellars, and I will be clearing them out and re-organizing them and everything. Right now we have everything up on palettes because when it rains the walls leak in water and it gets all over the floor.
I want to somehow slow this down - would something like Dry-Loc paint work to help keep water from coming in? I have read about doing major things with acid to clean everything and putting up some kind of mortar type stuff - Quik-Wall, I think.... but that is far too invasive for me, and I don't want to spend so much time re-doing the walls, as I plan on moving out of this house in the next two years - I just want it to be nicer for us while we live here.
Any ideas?

Thanks!!
jon

I believe Thuro-seal, Dry Loc and Waterplug can all be used to "paint" a waterproof seal on concrete walls. Check the labels for the product that best fits your application needs. Good luck.

Okay.
One last question.... do they actually work? Will they prevent water from getting into the basement?
Thanks!

I have used Water plug and it worked. I am NOT saying it's a pleasure to do. The stuff is thick but I was afraid to thin it down anymore than directed. Thought about troweling it on and then going over it with a brush. Probably would have worked. It DID seal the wall though, thats all I wanted. Good luck.
