Need some advice on sharing a well. I have a new home that the water supply is abundant, but the water quality is terrible. It has an extremely high TDS and Sodium Chloride content that is reacting/ruining fixtures and appliances in my home. I have tried drilling 2 new wells without luck. My neighbors (also my parents) have offered to let me share their well. However, I'm not sure of the technical or legal problems (if either of us needed to sell). Their well pumps over 35 gallon/minute and is of a very good quality. Anyone have any experience in this?

Are you sharing a pump as well, or putting two pumps down the same well ?
I've seen both situations a few times and inevitably both lead to problems. If ever the lower pump needs changing , both have to be pulled, -this seems to lead to disagreement about costs. You may find it preferable to filter your water

We would be sharing the same well and pump, electricity from the primary house. I have already tried filtering my current water supply with Culligan and it's TDS and Sodium Chloride is so high that it can't adequately solve the problem. My treated water is still causing my stainless steel silverware to pit and rust, my Delta faucets with the brilliance finish guaranteed not to stain are all spotted, and the inside of my stainless steel dishwasher is also beginning to rust. I hate to see what my pipes and hotwater tank look like. I have only been using this water for 9 months....

Let alone your blood pressure from all that added sodium, you probably should get it checked:(

Is your well deeper than the other one? They might have accdently gone too deep into salt water table. It might be possible to remove the pump, fill the bottom of the well with concrete to seal off the salt water and repolace the pump.

this assumes the bad well is deeper.

or you could use two filters in series to try and get the salt out

what doies the driller have to say about this? how about drilling a new well real close to the good one?
