We are going to put a suspended ceiling in the basement. There are currently two heat registers mounted to the bottom of the HVAC ductwork to provide hot air to the basement, which we would like to extend downward to protrude through and mount flush against the ceiling tile. The ceiling will be approximately 3 inches lower than the ductwork. Any suggestions on how to go about this? TIA!

Almost have to draw it out hard to tell how. Can just get some sheet metal and bend up a small collar that will go from the duct down to the opening in the ceiling screw it on to the duct there. We run all basement runs to the just off the out side walls. Take offs in the top of the duct and round pipe to the boots for the registers blowing down.

Hi Ed, the duct is the rectangular main trunk that runs down the middle of the house. There is an existing suspended ceiling which is set up the way I want it, however removing nearby tiles revealed that the previous owner simply screwed a few pieces of wood to the sheet metal, then attached the register to the wood. When the furnace runs copious amounts of heat escape through all the gaps in the wood above the ceiling - a total waste. I would like to install something that would not leak yet still provide the same look as what currently exists.
