Not a Thanksgiving overload...but night before Thanksgiving the toilet in the kids bath overflowed. I have plunged and plunged...the water eventually gets through. But it won't flush ... the flap opens and the water flows in, but no such luck having it create that little "cyclone" to flush the water out. Like I say, the water flows out eventually so don't think its totally blocked, but still unusable. I did try a very short manual auger.
My house is "off the ground" with a crawl space under.....is there some sort of clean out under the house? The other toilet (always a slow flusher) works just fine.
Is there anything else I can do before calling in the plumber? Is there a difference in an toilet auger and a drain auger? I have one on a drill motor that I use for the sink traps...but it says "not for toilets?"

You have several options here. It sounds like you have a partial clog in your toilets.
First(easiest and cheapest) Drain care. This is an enzyme based drain cleaner that sticks to the clog and "eats it". This product is said to work overnight but depending on the severity of the clog may take more than 1 application. Available at home centers and at Walmart.

2 Take the toilet up and use a 25' auger to try and clear the obstruction.
while the toilet is up you can carefully flip it up to see if there is anything in the trap that should be removed.

3 look under the house and see if you can find a clean out plug. If one is found you can use a power auger with 3 or 4" cutters and clean the drain going toward the street. This will cut through any tree roots that may have invaded your lines. If the problem is tree roots this may help for a while but will have to be redone.

You don't say if you are on a city sewer or a septic tank.
Good luck and post back

I think it's in one toilet, I do not think this will be a mainline problem, try a toilet auger, there is probably a toy of something inside the trap of the toilet.

If it's just a toilet, running mainline from under house or after pulling toilet will do you no good.

Now if you pull toilet take it outside tip it upside down and look for the obstruction, only do this if toilet auger is not a success.
