A few weeks ago, on TV (a home improvement channel or something) they were talking about how more and more homeowners with hardwood floors are choosing to have their hardwood floors painted instead of having them re-finished. (The sanding and finishing makes a big, dusty mess.) They were saying that the floor painting job is best done by professionals, that it looks nice and has a "whitewashed" kind of finished look that is supposed to be quaint and attractive. The job is finished off with a coating of polyurethene (sp). Does anyone know something about this? Thanks in advance ...

i don't think painting wood floors is anything new, but it is a good solution for floors that are stained in areas and cannot be refinished to an acceptable uniform color all over.
it is very charming and cottagey, although i've seen some darker versions that were quite rich looking - almost like an inlaid look. you can even paint on an "area rug" in the center!
i don't remember the exact steps, but i do recall prep, paint & a poly finish.
