Hi,
(Sorry this is a duplicate, but somehow I managed to "close" the first post.) I just purchased a home that has two beautifully remodeled bathrooms with tiled showers. However, there is no tub! I would like to install a tub in one of the bathrooms with as little tearing out as possible, since the tile is new and was done very well. The current shower is in an alcove with a tiled "curb" to prevent the water from flowing out. There is a center drain, and the floor of the tub is sloped slightly toward the drain. The inside measurements of the floor of the shower are 57" X 27". I have a photo I can submit, if that would help. Any ideas would be appreciated.

suzieq_az1, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
Not sure exactly what you mean by "a lot of tearing out". For a "full size" tub you are talking 60 inches. Also the center drain will probably have to be moved since most tubs have end drains. Seems to me that this IS a lot of tearing up. Sorry. Maybe someone else will have an idea that meets your expectations so watch this post. Good luck.

What I want to avoid is removing the tiles that would be above the rim of the tub -- the shower walls. I'll need to remove a few to install the tub faucet and spout -- currently there is a shower head and 2 handles.
If I put in a "regular" tub, I fully expect to take out the tiles from the top of the tub down. They do make tubs with center drains, but these tend to be expensive. So, I was figuring that I will need to have a plumber move the drain (I know my limits). I don't know if I will have to remove the "curb." That depends on the bottom width of the tub (as opposed to the width at the top, which is generally 30 inches.
I guess what I was getting at is if anyone had any creative ideas. I have considered building up the "curb" to make it more tub-sized, tiling it, and creating a tub, but I don't think it would be very comfortable. Perhaps someone has ideas about that? It seems like I've seen tiled tubs before . . .
