We pulled up the carpeting in our living room and found gorgeous hardwood floors. The house was built in 1960, but the floors have obviously been covered with carpeting the whole time. There are paint splatters on the bare, unfinished wood floor. How should we take it off? The sander isn't touching it.

It may be that the sand paper needs a heavier grit try changing the paper to a more coarse texture and try that .If that fails then in an out of the way area try some paint thinner and see what it dries like on the wood. You do not want to introduce alot of chemicals to the floor that may disclor os changer the look of the wood.try the paper first then we'll go from there

Thanks. We'll try the grittier sandpaper first. Do we just fill in the nail holes? Unfortunately there are a lot of them right at the large entrance to the room, and the area rug I plan to use won't be covering them.
