A pan that appeared to be metal turned out to be plastic and caused a fire in the oven. I know the fumes from the plastic are caustic and should be avoided. I have gotten the bulk of the burnt plastic out. I thought it was pretty well cleaned and as a last thing I tryed to use the self cleaning feature just to make sure. It smelled like plastic so I turned it off and quickly got the house aired out. The oven is fairly new, and is electric. Is there any way to get any remaining plastic out? Buying another new oven is not an option right now. I would appreciate any suggestions, we need it for Thanksgiving dinner. Thanks

All you can do is heat up the element and remove the plastic that is left. It will smell even after you see no more residue. I realize this is a little late for Thanksgiving but burn off what you can and possibly keep the door open and run a fan to get the smell out. Sorry, but thats all I can think of. Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving.

Thanks for the idea. I am doing a burn off as we speak. What I am concerned about, is if it still smells like plastic, could it still be dangerous to breath. I don't mind the smell if it is not harmful. What do you think?
