Hi,

My Sears Self-propelled Lawn Mower Model #944.360300, Serial#031400M 002402, Engine model#143006700, will not start. It seems to me that it is out of time as when I pull the rope it fires and snaps it out of my hand. This problem just appeared suddenly without any cause that I am aware of.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks......tombell

Hello Tombell!

2 things that would cause it to kick back like that: 1- the flywheel key is sheared...usually from hitting a branch, root, stump, etc... or 2- the blade is loose or too short (broken)

Hi Cheese,

Thanks very much for the prompt reply and for the help. That makes sense to me and I'll follow up on it

I just learned about this great site yesterday and so this has been my first experience with it,...a good one I will say!

Thanks again,

tombell

Hi again Cheese,

Just as you suggested I found that the flywheel key had sheared. I installed a new one this morning and "presto", no more problem.

I really appreciate your help.

Take care,
tombell
