View Full Version : Wiring problems for Honeywell humidistat

After just installing a new Honeywell power flowthrough humidifier (H365B), I'm having real trouble getting the humidistat (H1008A) to work properly. I think that I've got it wired up right to the furnace circuit board(R-CW/CG, G-G, W-W), but I'm getting nowhere.
When I put the humidistat into test mode, it activates the humidifer when the fan and heat are off (power only to CW/CG), when the furnace fan is blowing (power to CW/CG and G), but turns off when the heat kicks on (power to CW/CG, G, and W). According to the checkout instructions, it should activate when either the fan or heat is on, but not otherwise. After checking my connections repeatedly, trying a number of wiring permutations, and generally beating my head against the wall, I reasoned that the humidistat was defective and got a replacement. The replacement behaved exactly the same, so either Honeywell has a batch of defects, or I'm missing something in the wiring.
I'd appreciate any suggestions; I'm about ready to go get a manual humidistat and just cope that it won't auto-adjust for outside temp.
Thanks,

Similar functionality, but different layout. It doesn't require an outdoor sensor (although you can hook one up); it calculates how cold it is outside based on how often the furnace runs. Also, the humidifer plugs into 120 VAC directly, then steps down to 24V to feed the humidistat. So on the left side, it has two terminals for the humidifer control, and two wires for constant 24 VAC coming from the transformer in the humidifer. On the right, it has connections for G, CG, CW. and W (plus the outside bulb, if you're using one). From the factory, CG and CW are jumped, and the wiring diagram requires that except for two transformer systems.
I'm hoping someone has had similar issues with the Honeywell H1008, and can tell me the fix.

That R-CW gets me if Im right on my paper work .for the H1008 It shows that CW is the common leg from the transformer that works the furnace tstat. I hope you didnt blow anything else. For sure forget that outside tstat. On AC turn the water off and just unplug the Hum.

Ed:
I'm not sure I understand what you were getting at in your post. I agree that CW should be the same feed as the common wire for the furnace thermostat. Preinstalled from the factory, and in Figure 5 of Honeywell's install guide wiring diagram (at http://hbctechlit.honeywell.com/techlit/PDF/69-0000s/69-1185EF.pdf), the CW and CG terminals are jumped. That's how I've got it wired. I've tried it also without the jumper, wiring the common to either CW or CG, but it doesn't fix the unit's behavior. What would I have blown- a fuse, or are you just saying I've got it wrong somehow? The furnace still behaves just fine, and the humidifer itself works well when the humidistat activates it- the humidistat just isn't doing it at the right times.
I agree when I switch over to air conditioning, it's time to unplug and turn off the water.
I appreciate the help. Would you suggest a different wiring setup?

Check and see do you have 24V from the unit that say hot and com there from that transformer over on the hum side. You have the jumper on the two O T there. This is why I like a A50 relay over the blower wires and Im done.
ED
I just installed the same model with the Humidistat controller, and found the instructions for the Humidistat a bit confusing. After calling the service tech where I purchased it, understood that a simple G-G and W-W connection, at the room thermostat input to the furnace, makes it work. It has worked well for about a week now. This installation does not give you the function of humidifying in the Fan-on mode without the furnace (that requires a CG/CW-G connection to G after the fan relay). This information was on the instructions that came with the Humidistat (document 68-0207-3, see note triangle-3 in figure 8), but conflicts with other Honeywell documents that I've seen online (like 69-1185EF-3).
Hope this helps. If you have figured out where the CG/CW connection (after the fan relay, as noted by note triangle-3) goes, please share.
