IN-TANK Fuel line tude?

Getting things ready.
Noticed no fuel getting to shut off area when open?
Back track up fuel line going into tank at so called fire wall, Polaris 2001 550 touring.
Open tank, look in?
Tube in tank on petkock nipple is off and at bottm of tank?

Question is:

Can you unscrew the petkock, reattach in-line feeder fuel tube.
Re-screw the whole deal back into tank at firewall?

Looks like that is what was done at factory?

Also looks like pipe dope / tape on threads?

Any ideas?
