I have just installed Pergo Select laminate flooring. I now have to return the furniture to the room. Will an upright piano hurt the flooring if it is rolled across it? I have cups to put it on once in place, but it has to roll 15 feet or so into place first. If rolling won't work, any suggestions other than just rolling it in place?

Thank you,
-Matt

Matt,

Can you slip towels or washrags under the rollers and bring several of your closest burly male friends over to push?

What about laying something over the floor where you plan on rolling this guy? Such as thin foam covered with craft paper, etc.

mappler, Welcome to the DIY Forums.

I like using carpet scraps turned face side down. Depending on how heavy it is, you might want to take some thin wood about 6" square and cut out a small hole so the wheels sit in (but not through them) and glue the carpet to the wood. You can then slide the piano and the wood , this way the weight is covering a larger area. Good luck.

Duiring the addition/remodel, the flooring contractor put down wood laminate flooring. The general then rolled the new refrigerator across the unprotected floor from the dining room though the kitchen. Completely ruined the floor. The flooring contractor recommend laying down 1/8" Masonite or any type of tempered hardwood. The contractor used this the next time and everything went well. He used two 4'x4' pieces and leapfrogged them. Good luck.

Thank you very much for the suggestions. I hadn't thought of masonite, but that is a great idea.

I did buy some of those "slider" pads to slide heavy furniture, but wasn't sure about the wheeled piano.

Thanks for all the advice...

The masonite worked great. The piano is now in the proper place safely. Thank you very much for all of your suggestions.
