First time on here. Hope this isn't the dumbest question ever asked.
I bought a dimmer switch which has three wires.
The receptacle has only two wires. Is there a way I can use it and leave the green wire not attached?

I assume you meant that there are only two wires in the switch box. If there is a grounding wire in the switch box, connect the green wire from your dimmer to it. Else, if the box is metal, connect your green wire from the dimmer to a green grounding screw in the box (you can buy a package of grounding pigtails at the home center). Else, leave the green wire disconnected (but make sure it doesn't contact anything else electrical).
