Hi,

I'm trying to replace my old mercury Trane Thermostat with a RiteTemp Digital one, and have run into some problems.

First off, the wires I have don't match up with the ones that are listed in the new Thermostats instructions.

I have:

O
R
X2
Y
B
G
T
W

and 2 wires that weren't connect (one pink and one tan/gray).

The new Thermostat has connections for:

C
H
W2
Rc
Rh (jumpered with Rc)
O
B
W
Y
G
A

Originally, I had the wrong model that didn't support 2ndary heating/emergency heating. When I went to fire it up, the fan came on for a few secs then kicked off. After replacing it with the newer model that supports Emergency/2ndary Heating, I couldn't get the furnace/ac to respond at all. At no point when flipping the circuit breaker or doing the wiring did I see any sparks or smoke. I finally gave up and installed the original Thermostat and the system is still unresponsive.

I'm hoping I've just blown a fuse, but am afraid I might have done significant damage.

Any suggestions on what I might have broken? Also, can someone recommend the correct wiring scheme? According to the instructions I should:

- Tape of Blue and not use it
- Jump W to Y on the stat and connect Y to Y
- R to RC (which is jumpered to RH on the stat)
- G to G
- O to O
- Tape off T
- W to W2

Thanks in advance!

I checked out the actual Heatpump in the basement. I removed the side panel, and checked out the metal box where all the wiring was attached to. I noticed a fuse, removed it and went to HomeDepot. They didn't carry the fuse, but they did test it for me and told me it was blown.

Once I replaced the fuse, the Heating/AC is working again.

I'd really like to put this $80 digital thermostat on, but I'm still shakey on the wiring. Specifically, what I bind the X2 wire to on the new unit (W2 ?).

Not sure on what you have there in the system. My book shows that X2 as the control to the V/S blower??? The T is outdoor tstat. So check out what you have on the schematic inside the unit there.
Dont like to use the programmable tstat on the heat pump. After it drops the temp for a while and turns it up most of the time it will turn on the strip heaters. To get the heat back up. So you have lostwhat you think you save. Clean filter every 30 to 90 days and a good high humidity Wil save you more .

My .02 cents

X2 is W2, look at previous posts, you are not the first in this predicament! be glad you have the fuse protection, many posters have lost the transformer by the time we hear from them!

I have had the exact same problem, I have pulled my fuse to have it checked, but am concerned about whether my transformer is blown, how do I determine if it is ok or not, or do I just need to check and fix the fuse if needed and if the furnace still doesn't work, that means the transformer is blown?

Is the transformer located in the same area as the fuse? My system was installed in 1994 and this used to be a rental so there are no owner's manuals to be found. It is a TRANE and the stat is the weathertron as mentioned in earlier messages.

Thanks in advance

OK, I replaced my fuse. turned on the breakers on the furnace, then turned on the breakers on my main panel in the house. The blue light came on that signifies that the heat pump is coming on. It was only on a few seconds and then it went out and NOTHING. That was several hours ago. Any suggestions, comments, HELP!!
