My new (to me) home has a slate floor entry which was apparently sealed at some time. The area is about 60 square feet of multi-color slate tiles with dark grout. The floor surface always looks dirty as whatever is on there has discolored or something. All the "nooks and crannies" have what appears to be deposits of something.

How can I remove whatever sealer is on the floor without ruining the tile. If I can't remove it, is there something I can do to make it look better.
