Hi, Don't know if I can be descriptive enough to be of any use but any help is appreciated as i'm at a loss. Basically all the radiators in the top half of the house and 1 in the hall wont heat above a quarter of the way up there are 4 in total. I have a combination boiler downstairs and its on , thats all I know about that :o) I have tried bleeding all the radiators and all they do is a let out a tiny puff of air and then nothing. someone mentioned having a tank in the loft perhaps because it could be the ball valve  But there is nothing in the loft so im guessing not. Any idea what else I could try before I have to call a plumber??? Thanks for your help in advance. Talisman.
Your system is low on water. If you can find the pipe that lets water into the boiler and a valve that may be in the line, you have a good chance of getting some more water in there so you can push the air out. The pipe that feeds the heating system is usually on eof the smallest pipes near the boiler. A picture of the piping near your boiler would help us to help you.

You need to try to trace the water piping feeding into the boiler. You probably have an auto-fill valve (it will look like a bell with a stem or thumb wheel out of the top of it). You will need to tighten the stem until you hear water flowing thru the pipe to put more water into the system. Do this with the circulator not running, i.e. turn the thermostat down. Look at the pressure guage on the boiler, and try to adjust the auto-fill to obtain a pressure of between 15 to 18 psi. Creep, don't leap. In other words, adjust the pressure slowly.
Then go bleed the radiators, to get the air out.
Post back if you have problems.
