Floor Care Cleaning Tips for Marble, Ceramic Tile and Slate Floors:
Proper care of your floor prevents damage and keeps it looking new for years. Something as simple as wearing socks or slippers inside can extend the life of marble, ceramic tile, or slate.
Shoes carry damaging oil and dirt. Oils from the bottoms of your bare feet can also have ill effects. Always vacuum or dust hard floor surfaces before mopping.
Our floor care tips page has information specific to each floor type. For instance, when damp mopping marble floors, immediately follow with a dry towel. Marble floors spot easily. Tile and slate should be cleaned with warm water only.
To clean stains out of grout, spray a 50/50 solution of hydrogen peroxide and water directly on the spot. Let that set 15 minutes and repeat. Caution: peroxide will remove the color from colored grout. For colored grout, try using shaving cream (in an inconspicuous spot). It might work.
